Key Biomarkers of Aging

Working with a Stanford University biomathematician, we analyzed correlations among various biomarkers to develop the algorithms used in the calculation of the physiological ages of six important organ systems. Then we developed the PhysioAge® Composite, a weighted composite index of these six underlying ages.

Detail and precision are crucial differences that set PhysioAge Systems apart from other health tests. Our expert system is based on solid science – extensive clinical trials, scientific literature, and careful statistical analysis of primary data.

Rather than using secondary clinical studies to calculate physiological age, we used our own in-depth, primary research to measure 120 attributes among 118 individuals. This study determined how biomarkers relate to each other, which enabled a greater degree of statistical accuracy and a deeper understanding of the aging process. Biomarkers are levels in your body which can give some indication of status and risk. With unique in-house measurements, PhysioAge Systems gives you complete, clear, and precise results.

Our Team of Experts

Over the past 15 years, Dr. Joseph Raffaele of PhysioAge Medical Group has developed a proprietary method in which they compare a patient’s results with a growing database, an assessment that yields essentially a physiological age for that system, and of the body as a whole, that is more meaningful than the person’s chronological age. Dr. Raffaele and Dr. Kumm then formulated the PhysioAge Composite algorithm using factor/principal component analysis and multiple linear regression. In conjunction with a development team led by Jonathan Wright, a former NASA project coordinator, the Principals then developed a web-based system to collect the biomarker data and generate the physiological ages.

The PhysioAge® Composite index

Working with our Stanford University biomathematician, we analyzed relationships among various biomarkers to develop the formulas used to calculate the physiological ages of six important organ systems. Then we developed the PhysioAge Composite, a weighted composite index of these six underlying ages. The PhysioAge® Composite is able to explain 80% of the difference amongst individuals in the aging process. No other system comes close to this benchmark in measuring the physiological age of important organ systems.

Your health professional will perform several painless, noninvasive tests on you and may draw some blood. You will also take a 15-minute computerized brain function test, either at home or in your doctor’s office. The results of these tests are submitted to a web-based reporting platform, which automatically generates a comprehensive report listing your physiological ages as well as easy-to-understand descriptions of up to 160 individual results. You will have access to your results via a secure and private online portal for future reference.
